Founder & Career Strategist
Career help from someone who made the same journey.
Ten years building a business in Russia. Ten years managing a recruitment branch in Nelson. Now an independent advisor helping skilled migrants find work in New Zealand and Australia.
The path here
Tate grew up across the United States, Kenya, Pakistan and India, then studied business at the University of Central Florida with exchange semesters in Sweden and the Netherlands. After two years at Dun & Bradstreet in St Petersburg, he founded Direct INFO, a market research firm serving multinational clients in Russia. Over the next decade the business grew from two staff to twenty-five, with around six hundred clients across Europe, the United States, and Eurasia. Deloitte audited the firm in 2006.
In 2007 Tate immigrated to New Zealand with his family. He spent ten years from 2008 as Branch Manager for Advanced Personnel Services in Nelson, where his team placed over 6,000 candidates into work and consistently ranked in the top decile of the national recruitment network.
Since 2018 he has worked independently as an employment consultant, focused on skilled migrants moving to New Zealand and Australia. Tate is a New Zealand citizen, based in Nelson at the top of the South Island.
How Tate works
Migration is rarely the hard part. The hard part is getting hired by an employer who values your background, ideally before the visa work begins.
Tate works directly with skilled candidates from the first conversation through to the offer letter. The method is built around two ideas: identify the strengths a candidate already has but isn’t presenting clearly, and reach the right employers directly rather than relying on job boards. Live employer-call demonstrations are part of the work.
Tate also collaborates with employers and immigration agents in New Zealand and Australia where the case calls for it.
One client described the approach as “a game-changer” after years of struggling with traditional applications. The value isn’t novelty. It’s that the right strengths reach the right employer at the right time.
Where Tate works from
New Zealand is all about lifestyle. Tate runs his business from a home office in a valley near Nelson, at the top of the South Island. The setup keeps overheads low, which keeps prices fair for clients, and keeps the work close to the kiwi life he came here for in the first place. He also spends part of each year on the Gold Coast, where family is based.
“You played a massive part in me being in NZ today. I will always be grateful to you for your assistance.”
